See MoreFounded in 2015, Cyber-Seniors is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to bridge the digital divide and connect generations using technology. Cyber-Seniors provide tech-training for senior citizens using an intergenerational volunteer model. High school and university/college students are provided with lessons and learning activities to train them to act as digital mentors; and senior citizens gain access to effective technology training and intergenerational communities that keep them socially connected and engaged. As seniors become more comfortable using technology in their daily lives, they find a welcoming intergenerational online community that serves to increase their well-being and offers them safe opportunities to engage, while continuing to embrace technology. The Cyber-Seniors model is cost effective, sustainable, and benefits both seniors and young people. Cyber-Seniors can be reached by calling 1-844 217-3057 or via their website at www.cyberseniors.org. See MoreMIRA’s approach is to conduct research in cross-Faculty teams and engage the older adult community, their families, healthcare providers and other key stakeholders through every stage of our activities, from research to evaluation and implementation of interventions and technologies. The input of multiple perspectives and complementary areas of expertise will ensure that our research is, from the outset, optimized to create useable, practical, older adult-centred solutions that promote aging in place.
See MoreIn 2021, Neighbourhood Connect, a business and residential Internet service provider based in St Catharines, heard of the difficulty many seniors face in finding affordable internet service. They sought us out to offer a solution which would involve installing their equipment directly on and in Niagara Regional Housing residence buildings. They could then offer their basic unlimited high-speed internet services to residents for $10 a month. By setting up in their first Niagara Regional Housing location at 211 King Street in Welland, they not only extended their affordable services to seniors there, they expanded their reach in Niagara and now serve Welland as well as St Catharines. As they continue to install their service in the other Seniors’ Computer Lab locations throughout Niagara, more seniors with limited income will be able to afford this necessary service for the first time.
See MoreRCT in St Catharines supports the Seniors’ Computer Lab Project by providing desktop computers and printers for each physical lab location, and also supplies refurbished computers with ongoing Tech and warranty support for seniors and students on restricted incomes. For many seniors, these laptops are the first devices they are able to own.
